Who We Are 

We are part of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney of the Scottish Episcopal Church and our Bishop is Rt Revd. Dr. Robert Gillies. The S.E.C. is part of the Anglican Communion, which includes the Church of England and the Episcopal Church of the U.S.A.   Newcomers to the area who are from a low or evangelican Anglican background feel very at home in our congregation and with our style of worship.

We are also members of the Evangelical Alliance whose statement of faith reflects the ethos of the leadership of our congregation.   We see ourselves as an open evangelical church with a certain diversity amongst ourselves characterised by a commitment to taking the bible seriously as the inspired word of God and yet fully engaging with contemporary culture and thought.

Who’s Who 

Rector:  Paul has been with us since February 2009. He is married to Ina who is a psychotherapist and they have two daughters Abigail and Hannah. Prior to coming to St Devenick’s they were in Sri Lanka and Glasgow. He enjoys a variety of sports and loves nothing better than finding himself in a room with a group of people he has never met before. What he loves most about his role is the chance to creatively work at the border of life and faith and help people work out just what God is up to in their lives.

Deaconess: June has been at St Devenick’s since the 1970’s and is a fount of  wisdom and prudence, with an extensive knowledge of anything pertaining to St Devenick’s.  She has a wonderful sense of humour, is brilliant with kids and delivers some of our more reflective sermons.  She is an excellent counter balance to Paul who relies on her to keep him on the right track. She is married to John and they have two grown up sons.

Lay Reader: Stephen’s day job is as a Principal Reservoir Engineer at Shell but contributes to the life of St Devenick’s primarily through preaching and leading worship and being part of the ministry team. He is married to Helen and they have two children Jonathan and Anna.

Honorary Assistant Priests:

Rev.Gerry Bowyer is a Church Army Captain and evangelist who is pioneering a Fresh Expression of church on behalf of the Diocese -CAF4E

Rev.Canon Ken Gordon is a former Rector of St Devenick’s and having retired nearby helps with services and some pastoral visiting.
